Pearl FAQ

How do I care for my pearls?

Pearls are organic gemstones that are vulnerable to acid, alkaline and extremes of humidity. To preserve your pearls’ radiance, avoid letting them come into contact with cosmetics, hair spray, or perfume. Always put on your jewellery as a final touch, after applying make-up and styling hair. The pearl’s luster can also be harmed by perspiration. To prevent this, before returning your pearls to the jewellery box, wipe them gently with a soft cloth.

How do I store my pearls?

Pearls can be scratched by contact with sharp objects or other gemstones. To prevent tangles and scratches, fasten clasps and pins, then lay each item out separately in a compartmentalized jewellery box. When not wearing your jewellery, use a protective jewellery pouch. Leaving pearl jewellery in a jewellery box for long periods may cause pearls to dehydrate, so enjoy them frequently. There is a saying that “pearls want to be worn,” and it is so very true!

 Will my item tarnish?

The short answer to this is yes, if you do not care for it properly. Our items are .925 Sterling Silver, which means that it is 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals. You must clean your jewellery so it doesn’t tarnish, you’ll know if it is tarnishing as it will have a blackish residue. There’s silver cleaner and polishing cloths you can get, or you can wash it in warm soapy water mixed with a small amount of baking soda. Dry with a soft towel.

We recommend that you remove all your jewellery before you have a shower or go to bed for the night. Also, take extra care with your jewellery as these are set by hand and are more delicate. Also, we recommend that you not wear your jewellery around cleaning chemicals as this can damage the pearl.
